On Sunday 4 October, Dario De Toffoli and Furio Honsell will present Il grande libro del calcolo veloce e mentale: they will play with numbers, attempting once again to dispel the misconceptions surrounding mental arithmetic, and demonstrating just how interesting, fun and indeed useful it is for keeping the brain sharp and flexible. That’s right: mental arithmetic is neither dry, nor mechanical, nor serious; on the contrary, it is a true triumph of creativity based on mental flexibility.
You’ll be surprised to find that you can solve a wide variety of calculations without resorting to the usual tedious algorithms: and mark my words, they’ll do this at every level, from the most basic right up to operations that, at first glance, will seem impossible.
To top it all off, they’ll also be playing with numbers alongside many authors from the history of world literature, from Dante to Shakespeare, from Ionesco to Perec, from Buzzati to Dahl, from Joyce to Kafka. Would you ever have guessed it?

The occasion is the COMBO Festival in Milan: two days dedicated to contemporary board and role-playing games, featuring Essen previews, games, tournaments, talks, exhibitions, prototypes, a bookshop and an evening party.
Over 150 tables set up for playing more than 300 games, all distributed in Italy, including no fewer than 40 world premieres.
A festival designed for those who have always played, for those who want to discover new titles, and for those seeking a different kind of experience to enjoy with friends, family and the wider community.
